Traditionally guests have given wedding gifts to the bride and groom to help them to leave their parents homes and set up their new life together. Gifts such as kitchenware, bedding and other household items were welcomed. However, times have changed! Asking for a gift might seem a little awkward, but every wedding guest will expect to give a gift to celebrate your marriage. Help them out by including some information in with your invitation on your gift registry or wishing well. It can be considered tacky or rude to include these details on your invitation itself, so we recommend either a separate gift card or a line or two on your information card. The easiest way is to include a message in with your Wedding Invitation alternatively, designate this task to a relative and use word of mouth. Options for your Invitations include a separate Gift card or a Gift message as part of your Information card. Here are some examples. It is becoming more and more common to request money in lieu of gifts as many couples have already lived together prior to getting married and have everything they need for their home. Some wording suggestions included. However, should you wish to help us celebrate with a gift a wishing well will be provided on the day. We do nonetheless realise that some of you may wish to give us a wedding gift to commemorate our union together. After having lived on our own, we have all of the household items we need. However, for those of you who would like to give us a gift, we will have a wishing well at our reception that will go towards our future together. If the gifts will be put towards a new house, home improvements or the honeymoon, often it is nice to mention the purpose for which the money will be used. However, should you wish to honour us with a gift, a contribution to our honeymoon would help to create memories that will last a lifetime. A wishing well will be available on the day. Some couples opt for no gifts, especially if the wedding location has required guests to travel and pay for accommodation. In this circumstance often just omitting gift details from the invitation is enough. Stay up to date. Find wedding inspiration that fits your style with photos from real couples. I am using a basket with a lid for my card box. It is a tropical theme so it fits well but most people will not know its for cards. I tied the lid down so that it cannot open all the way I heard all the horror stories about wait staff stealing the cards!! I am trying to think of a cute poem or saying to print out on a tent card that will sit next to the basket to basically tell people its a card basket. Since it has a lid I wanted to include something that tells people to lift the lid. Any poets out there?? Any ideas of what to write?? Im not the best with poems and Im assuming you mean the box is for gift cards? Um well if it for gift cards what about something like If youd like to deposit a small gift, just give the lid a lift? Haha that was probably terrible! But good luck! Hi, Are you having someone watch over the guest book? If so, then I would have the card box with that and a table behind for the gifts and untie the basket and leave the lid open, then as soon as everyone has arrived for the reception, Put someone in charge of loading the gifts and cards into you or a realitive vehicle and locking it. I wouldnt leave them in a locked room at the reception hall overnight if you are having the gift opening at the same locations , as staff would have keys, Maybe get your ushers to lock them in your vehicle. I love the give a gift, give a lift idea–cute. Why not just put a small letter shaped slit in the lid for cards, that way you can secure the lid down and your mind will be at rest of any wandering hands?
